World Folk
Music Association Benefit Concerts
Side by Side has performed at
EVERY World Folk Music Association Benefit Concert for 22 Years.
They are the ONLY performers to have that record. Here is a partial stroll back through
memories of some of the concerts:

21st
Side by Side (Doris
Justis and Sean McGhee) got the concert off to a great start
wtih a set that included Steve Romaoff's Leviathan, Cheryl
Wheeler's Arrow, Bill Danoff's My Own Train Now and John
Denver's Calypso.

20th
Side by Side, (Doris Justis and Sean McGhee),
accompanied by Paul Prestopino, kept the tempo up by beginning
their set with the Rev. Gary Davis' If I Had My Way and following
that with John Denver's Wild Montana Skies. Doris and Sean then
changed the pace a bit by doing one of Dick Cerri's favorite Christmas
songs, O Holy Night and following that with America the
Beautiful. They then sang Julie Gold's Grammy winning song, From a
Distance, before finishing their set with Pete Seeger's The Bells
of Rhymney.

19th
Apearing at their 19th
WFMA Benefit Concert,
Side by Side (Doris Justis and Sean McGhee),
accompanied by Philip Cary Bloch (left) began with Somewhere
Over the Rainbow and then sang a John Denver classic, Fly Away.
They then got folks laughing with Building for the Future by Roy
Zimmerman of the Foremen. They finished their set by getting
everyone to sing along on the Del Shannon hit, Runaway.

18th
Side by Side (Doris
Justis and Sean McGhee), accompanied by Philip Cary Bloch,
began with John Denver's Wild Montana Skies. They then had everyone
laughing with Roy Zimmerman's Hell Froze Over Today. They followed
that with the Ebb/Kander song Tomorrow Belongs to Me and Ed
McCurdy's Last Night I Had the Strangest Dream. Sean's great tenor
voice was just perfect for their final song, Harry Chapin's Circle.
Also joining Doris and Sean on stage were Jon Carroll and Bill Danoff.

17th
Side by Side, (Doris Justis and Sean McGhee), with
some help on fiddle by Philip Cary Bloch (right), did several songs
including Boy From the Country and Dougie MacLean's Ready for
the Storm.

16th
Side by Side, Doris Justis and Sean McGhee, did a set
that included Joni Mitchell's "Urge for Going". They were later joined on
stage by Pete Kennedy (far left), Bill Danoff (center) and
Jon Carroll (far right) for a up-beat rendition of "Afternoon
Delight".
Before
Bill Danoff began his set,
Doris Justis presented him with the
WFMA John Denver Award.
Jon Carroll joined Bill on stage for "I Guess He'd Rather Be in
Colorado", Pete Kennedy came up to help on "Potter's Wheel" and
then, with assistance from the Kennedys, Side by Side and
Jon Carroll, Bill did several songs including "Friends With You"
(below).

Doris Justis was presented with the WFMA Appreciation Award
for her many years of supporting folk music in the Washington area.

13th - Showcases
|
13th
two performers,
brought together by John's music, were Doris Justis and Sean
McGhee -
Side by Side. They were joined by Paul Prestopino on guitar
(far left) and Philip Cary Bloch on fiddle (far right) as they
offered a beautiful rendition of "That's The Way It's Gonna Be" - the
trademark song used to open the Mitchell Trio shows when they introduced
John as Chad Mitchell's replacement. They continued with "For Baby (For
Bobbie)" a song written for Bobbie Wargo - the original title changed by
Peter, Paul & Mary.

Bill Danoff was joined
on stage by
Side by Side: Doris Justis and Sean McGhee to sing
"Afternoon Delight", Bill's big hit with the Starland Vocal Band.
Doris and Sean also sang with Bill on his final two numbers: "Comodore 64"
and "Tryin' to Live in Time".

Side by Side,
who have performed at all WFMA Benefit Concerts, delighted the audience
with their combination of John Denver's "Dreamland Express" and the Everly
Brothers' "All I Have to do is Dream". They also performed "Runnaway",
with their accompianist , Philip Cary Bloch, performing the
instrumental break on the fiddle.
